Mr. Sims has worked at the IHT since 2006, first as editor of Marketplace based in Paris and then moving in 2007 to Hong Kong to become Business Editor, Asia. Previously he was a staff reporter at The Wall Street Journal and its international and online editions, writing under the byline G. Thomas Sims for nearly six years. Based in Frankfurt at a crossroads in European economic history, he wrote extensively from across the Continent about the young European Central Bank, the birth of the euro and its effect on currency and bond markets, the challenges of European integration, and macroeconomic trends.
During the previous four years, Tom Sims was on the staff of Dow Jones Newswires in Frankfurt and New York, where he edited, reported on currency and bond markets, and covered international economics, the German auto, construction, retail and travel industries. He is a graduate of Columbia University, where he earned a Master of Science degree in Journalism in 1995. He has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Rice University and has also studied for several semesters in Vienna and Milan.
